Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
Akita (“Akita”, “we”, “us”) builds a privacy-first, self-hostable platform for home security and automation. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect through our website and hosted services, how we use it, and the choices you have. Privacy is the core of our product, not an afterthought.
1. Our privacy-first principle
Akita is designed to be local-first. When you self-host Akita, your camera video, AI inference, event data, and device activity are processed and stored on hardware you control. We do not receive or store your video footage or home recordings.
2. Information we collect
a. Information you provide
- Contact details — such as your name and email when you contact us or sign up for updates.
- Account information — if you use an Akita-hosted service, your email and authentication credentials (passwords are stored only as salted hashes).
b. Information collected automatically
- Basic website analytics — aggregate, non-identifying usage data (such as page views and referrer) to improve the site.
- Technical logs — IP address and device/browser type for security and troubleshooting.
c. Data on self-hosted deployments
Video, snapshots, detections, person profiles, and device state stay within your own deployment. RTSP camera credentials are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM.
3. How we use information
- To respond to your enquiries and provide support.
- To operate, maintain, and improve our website and any hosted services.
- To send updates you have requested (you can opt out anytime).
- To protect the security and integrity of our services.
4. Legal bases
Where applicable (e.g. under GDPR), we process personal data on the basis of your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and improving our services, and to comply with legal obligations.
5. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers who help us operate our website and communications (for example, hosting and email delivery), and only as needed to provide those services, or when required by law.
6. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described here or as required by law. You may request deletion of your data at any time.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at abhishek@akita.co.in.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption of sensitive credentials at rest, scoped access controls, and short-lived authentication tokens. No system is perfectly secure, but security is central to how we build.
9. Children's privacy
Akita is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
